I never thought of being a goalkeeper, it just soo happened to be that I became one . i was a winger when i started playing football. Occasionally at the end of the training sessions, when we had a free game with no ‘keeper, where the deepest player acted as a goalkeeper, sometimes i went into goal because i wanted to see the difference between a player that was on the pitch & a player that was a goal keeper.
It all started when one day our goalkeeper wasn’t present in school and we had a football match. We had no ‘keeper and somebody had to take up that position , but nobody really wanted to. So i volunteered to take the place . I said i would do it for only one match and we ended up having a good game, making some cool saves. And that is how i was one.:)
I realised this when I was 14 years old and i got my first call to the under- 17 local team, for a local tournament.
I performed well in the tournament and it made me realised that if i continued doing well and working hard if i stayed in the team i had a big chance to rise in the league and improve my skills even more further. It was also at this moment i realised that if i worked hard enough then this is going to be my biggest chance to start and have a successful career ahead.
I worked hard and i got a chance to be called by different teams in my local area to play for them such teams were; Ziwani Youth, Moons United, YMCA, Sparki Young Stars etc.
I wasn’t just into football because of the football kit & but however I loved & have always had a passion for it.
I also wanted to get a place in the first team of the school team so i went to the school field on the first day after being admitted. I Fully changed and i performed well getting myself a number to play for the school team for the next match i felt sorry for the keeper who was there before me😜 because my hard work got me where i was.
Through this I got myself a name in the school everyone got to know me and i was already famous. I performed well in the school games, helping my team to get far through the next stage.
Luckly enough through my school team i was able to be chosen as The best keeper in the Copa Coca Cola U17 tournament and i had to represent my area and province too (coast province) to the nationals in the capital city of kenya, nairobi.
There i got to meet different players and learnt new skills and tricks on how to become even more better.
Even Though we did not qualify for the finals, when i got back home and went back to school I gained much more experience that I previously had :).
Through this i didn’t give up but this made me much more determined to do much more better and put in more effort . When i got back home during the holiday i joined bodo glimt fc
A football team near home where it was easier for me to go and train. Through my hard work and effort i also got a chance to be their first team goalkeeper where i was able to play in the competitive local tournaments such as Taifa ngano ( a major tournament in mombasa)
Where i had my best perfomance ever in this league to an extent after being chosen to vie for the best sportsman in my county however I wasn’t successful in this as I didnt win it.:?
Currently am playing for my university. I also engage myself with small tournaments in the city just to keep my game up.
Conclusion
Football is my passion and it gave a lot of lesson and benefits like being fit, abstaining from drugs, socializing, being focused in what I do.
Being a goalkeeper was just unexpected incident but I enjoyed every bit of the journey and it mold me into who I am today.
MashaAllah..U r so dedicated in football I must say..keep it up😍
