People see what they want to see. People gloss over the hard things and the real reasons someone seems just a little bit off. They let themselves easily believe the lies that they are being told. They don’t question people. They don’t dig deeper. They see that the smile is fake and that it’s barely being held together, but they let it go. They don’t ask why. They don’t push you for details. They just let it slide. They let you slide further and further down until you feel like you can’t pull yourself up anymore. You feel like you’re being swallowed whole and no one around you seems to care.
If you took that knife and slid it down your arm….would they notice? If you bled all over right in front of them…would they bat an eye? Would they even move to help you if you were bleeding out right in front of them? What if you just kept cutting? What if you just let the blade cut into your skin over and over…deeper and deeper? Would you become as numb to your pain as the world around? Would it help? Would you eventually feel free or would you just be lost? Would you they let you lie there or would they try to save you? Why would it take so much for them to step forward? Or would it even be enough? What would it take? Could you stand in the middle of the room and scream at the top of your lungs or collapse to the floor and fall to pieces and even get someone to bat an eye? What would it take?
